Congratulations Erin Porter!

On the sunny afternoon of Saturday, May 1st, 2010, Erin Porter and her father, Shawn, wandered into the bleacher area of Wallingford Park in Rock Falls, where the Coloma Township Park District was sponsoring their 12th Annual AquaFina/Major League Pitch Hit & Run Competition. Erin took a tentative look around. The fact that she was at that time the only girl signing up for the competition slightly intimidated her.  Fortunately, when we told her that boys and girls compete in separate divisions, Erin decided that she would register and give it a shot.

It's a good thing she did.

After pitching at a target, hitting from a tee, and running the bases, Erin ended up winning the local competition in her age/gender group of 7 & 8 year old girls. From there, Erin advanced to the next level in the competition, which she also won. She then went on to win the next step in the National competition, which advanced her to the National Level. In other words, Erin wound up going all the way to Anaheim, California to compete in the final stage of the National AquaFina/Major League Pitch, Hit and Run Competition.  She and her father were flown to California, expenses paid, by AquaFina and Major League Baseball. They also received tickets to the Major League All Star Baseball Game, and Erin even had some "air time" on national television. What a wonderful experience and how much fun could that have been!

On top of all of that, Erin did a wonderful job and ended up coming in at Second Place in the AquaFina/Major League Pitch, Hit and Run National Competition. Way to go Erin! You made your hometown proud! I bet you can't wait to compete next year!
