Youth Programs

Special Event and Field Trip Program FILLED

Are you expecting a dull, boring summer..? Look forward to lots of fun in the sun at the Coloma Township Park District Special Event and Field Trip Program.  We will have two special event days in the park and go on ten field trips during the six week program.  The theme this summer is “Parkticipate in 08”.  Youngsters registering for the entire program will have priority over the youngsters who want to attend individual field trips.  Some days, participants are asked to bring a sack lunch.

Dance/Pom Pon Instruction

Future cheerleaders or girls who just like to dance will enjoy this class! Basic dance moves are incorporated into pom pon routines. Two pom pons for each participant are included in the price of the program.

Cheerleading

A terrific opportunity for the young girl to learn the basic art of cheerleading fundamentals plus the proper skills of building crowd enthusiasm. Participants in this program will learn floor cheers, sidelines, simple mounts, and basic tumbling techniques.

Get head over heels excited! Learn how to tumble! This program will cover basic tumbling skills and safety. Each session will emphasize coordination, balance, and tumbling. This class will be for both beginners and intermediates.

Children’s Arts & Crafts Filled

Children take so much pride in the tasks they accomplish themselves. If you enjoy neat, but messy crafts of all types, give this class a try, and don’t worry about having to clean up the mess. It’s all done for you. We will feature practical and beautiful crafts. All materials are provided.

Youth Tennis

Fifteen - Love! Improve your backhand. Learn scoring, proper serving techniques, tennis terminology and improve your footwork. These lessons will improve your game whether you are a beginner or advanced beginner. Bring your own racquet and don’t forget your ‘tennis shoes’. We’ll supply the tennis balls. The children will be placed by their abilities at the first lesson.

Hunter Safety Instruction

Proper usage of firearms including textbook work, and handling of guns in the classroom will be taught. Participants under 16 years of age are required by State Law to complete this course prior to receiving a hunting license. All other participants will receive a State Certificate for successful completion of the course. Participants must attend both days to receive hunting license. Lunch break will be approximately 12:00 Noon - 1:00 PM. Participants will be allowed to fire a gun on the NRA approved Firing Range under the supervision of State Certified Instructors. Sinnissippi Rod & Gun Club will provide the guns. Participants are NOT allowed to bring their own guns.

Family Programs

3rd Annual Tour de Health

The rides include a 27 and 50-mile that swing through Tampico and include a rest stop with pie from the Dutch Diner. A 7-mile Family Ride along the Hennepin Canal near Rock Falls is also available. The 50-mile loop begins at 8 a.m.; the 27-mile ride at 8:30 a.m.; and the 7-mile Family Ride starts at 10:00 a.m. Cost is $25 for either of the two long rides or $1 per person for the Family Ride. Participants will receive a water bottle. Sandwiches from area restaurants and fresh fruit will be provided at the finish of the ride. Ball Leagues

Tee Baseball

The Coloma Township Park District will again this summer sponsor a Tee Baseball League for eight weeks at Sieglinger Park. The Tee Baseball League has a total of sixteen teams with a maximum of eighteen players per team. The League is open to those boys and girls who will turn 6 on or before August 1, 2008 and who will not turn nine until after August 1, 2008 living in the Coloma and Montmorency Townships and in the Nelson School District. Tee Baseball registration is $27 which includes hat, shirt and accident insurance. Play begins on Tuesday, May 27.

Mens Slowpitch Softball Filled

The Park District will also sponsor its thirty third season of Mens 12" Slowpitch Softball at Centennial Park. The league will consist of 20 teams. Teams secure their own sponsors and provide their own equipment and uniforms. Registration fee is $420 with league play to begin on Monday, May 19. The entry fee includes umpires; balls and trophies for league and tournament play as well as equipment for and maintenance of the ball diamonds.

General Information

Registration

Summer programs will run for a four or six week period unless otherwise noted. Programs begin the week of June 2nd and will end no later than August 9th. Please check each program carefully for correct information. Due to circumstances beyond our control, sessions during this time may have to be postponed or rescheduled and we will make every effort to make up sessions at another time. The Coloma Township Park District reserves the right to cancel a program due to insufficient registration or to close a program if filled. All persons planning to attend the Park District programs must register at the Park District Administrative office ONLY, prior to the start of the programs! All programs listed in this brochure are contingent upon sufficient enrollment. All programs cancelled by the Park District due to insufficient registration will be refunded in full. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED ONCE A PROGRAM HAS BEGUN. Refunds may be obtained prior to the first program meeting. NO TELEPH0NE REGISTRATION will be accepted for recreation programs.

Free Tee Shirts

Each child who registers at the Coloma Township Park District Office located at 508 East 11th Street in Rock Falls will receive a Coloma Township Park District Summer Recreation Tee Shirt at no extra charge. There will be a limit of one tee shirt per child. Additional tee shirts are available at a cost of $8 per shirt. Register early while the supply lasts!!!

Special Family Rates

The Coloma Township Park District will be giving discounts to families and children with multi-interests. The two plans are outlined below:

FAMILY PLAN: This plan is for the family who will have more than one child participating in the same program. The second child registered in the same program will receive a $2 discount.

EXAMPLE: A family has three children participating in the Cheerleading Programs. The first child will pay $15 and the second and third child will pay $13 for a total of $41 for the entire family.

MULTI-INTERESTS PLAN: This plan is for the family who has a child who is interested in more than one program. The child would pay the regular fee for the first program and for each additional program the same child is registered in, she will receive a $2 discount on each of the programs.

EXAMPLE: A child wishes to participate in the Cheerleading, Pom Pon and Tumbling programs. She would pay $20 for the Tumbling program, $13 for the Cheerleading Program and $13 for the Pom Pon Program for a total of $46.

***The program with the higher fee will always be considered the first program.***

Tee Baseball and Men’s Slowpitch League do not qualify for these special rates.

Summer Picnic Reservations

A small fee is charged by the Coloma Township Park District for shelter rentals. This charge is to help cover the cost of moving picnic tables in and out of the shelter as needed and also for the cleaning before and after the gathering. Each shelter is rented only once each day. On the morning of the event, a Reserved Sign will be put up with the rental party’s name on it. An adequate number of picnic tables will be supplied. In the event of cancellation, a $10.00 service fee will be applied. Cancellations must take place by notifying the Coloma Township Park District Administrative Office at 508 East 11th Street, Rock Falls or calling 1-815-625-0272. No rainout refunds will be issued. The following is a list of shelter rental fees: Larson Shelter in Centennial Park $40; Lions Shelter in Centennial Park $35; AAL Shelter in Centennial Park $35: Heide Shelter in Centennial Park $35: Krug Shelter in Centennial Park $35; Nims Park Shelter $40; A.V. Sieglinger Memorial Park Shelter $35; Kiwanis Park Shelter $30; Logan Park Shelter $35; Rotary Park Shelter $35; John Bowman Family Memorial Park $30; Scanlan Shelter in Wallingford Park $35 (Not available April 1st - August 23).

Boat Rentals at Centennial Park

The Coloma Township Park District will again this summer season offer rental of boats for residents of Coloma Township. The unique area at Centennial Park in Rock Falls offers an ideal site for boating. The Park features a boating area equipped with 17 foot canoes, paddle boats, docks and a bright red boathouse. Rentals of the canoes and paddle boats include all necessary safety equipment required by the State of Illinois. Rental fee for the 2008 Summer Season will be $5 per half hour per boat. The boats are open on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Little Red Schoolhouse and Historical Museum

The Coloma Township Park District has announced that it plans to open the Little Red Schoolhouse and Historical Museum to the public for tours. Interested parties wishing to view the schoolhouse may call the Park District Administrative Office at 1-815-625-0272 and set up an appointment.

Red Caboose

Civic Fund Helps Support the Summer Programs

The Rock Falls Civic Fund provides monies to help the Coloma Township Park District sponsor a well rounded summer youth recreation program for the citizens of the District. Without the generous support of the Rock Falls Civic Fund, which offsets some of the costs of providing various recreation programs listed in this brochure, programs would either have a higher fee or would not be possible at all. The Rock Falls Civic Fund is a sub-agency of the Whiteside County United Way. The Coloma Township Park District Board of Commissioners and staff gratefully acknowledge the Rock Falls Civic Fund for all of its help in past years and present.
